					<description><![CDATA[Just wanted to thank you for this excellent article. I stopped my very enjoyable vegan diet due to a number of non-stone health problems that I discovered (proved) were due to oxalates. It was awful to give up spinach, quinoa, brown rice, soy, beans and nuts, etc and to incorporate dairy into my diet but I literally felt like I was dying from oxalate overload. 
Doctors have been useless since I don&#039;t have stones. 
My main oxalate issues were severe muscle and joint pain (fibromyalgi and arthritis),  profusely and spontaneously bleeding gums and inability to empty my bladder/ having to pee every 15 minutes.  There were others. The symptoms return when I eat any moderate to high oxalate foods; like eating more than 2 dates on my oatmeal or more than 1 serving of beans causes symptoms. Eating lots causes disability.
Anyhow,  I will experiment with adding potassium citrate, grapefruit juice and/or lemonade. I tried calcium citrate and dont think it helped but may have been taking it wrong, or with wrong expectations.
Your post is helping me to sort it out and I&#039;m encouraged to learn that animal products don&#039;t help in any way because I thought veganism was the issue.]]></description>

I typically would have 3oz spinach and 3 oz kale, 100ml calcium fortified soy milk (calcium carbonate providing 120g calcium per 100ml). Is some of the iron bound up with oxalate, so would the calcium bind with oxalate and so help with iron absorption? Would the calcium inhibit absorption of iron? THere are some research papers suggesting calcium supplements can inhibit iron absorption. What is best to do when both calcium and iron are priorities?]]></description>

I, too, am a vegan with kidney stones and all my favorite foods are high in oxalate! I suggest you look at the work of Dr. Fredric Coe, U of Chicago, who has found that consuming citrate prevents the binding of CA with oxalate. I get my citrate through magnesium citrate and zinc citrate supplements, since I need those elements, anyway, and some through lemon water.]]></description>
